Do I need any pottery experience?

+

Not at all. Our classes are suitable for complete beginners as well as people who have worked with clay before. We'll give you all the help and tuition you need.

What should I wear to a pottery class?

+

Our clay and paints shouldn't stain your clothes, but pottery can get a little messy! We'd recommend wearing something comfortable that you don't mind getting clay on.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

+

Nope, just yourself! We provide all the clay, tools, equipment and materials you'll need for your pottery class.

How old do you have to be to take part?

+

All ages are welcome at Isle of Wight Pottery. We leave it to parents to decide whether the class is suitable for their child, but children under 8 must have a parent or guardian stay with them throughout the session.

Do you offer pottery painting on the Isle of Wight?

+

Yes. Pottery painting at Isle of Wight Pottery is a little different from a traditional paint-a-pot studio. You'll start with clay and make your own piece before decorating and painting it, so your finished pottery is completely your own from start to finish.

Can adults and children take part together?

+

Absolutely! Our pottery classes are designed for adults and children to enjoy together, making them a great activity for families living on or visiting the Isle of Wight.

Can I paint the pottery I make?

+

Yes. You can decorate your pottery during the same session using our coloured slips. Alternatively, you can leave your piece with us to be bisque fired and come back to decorate it using our range of underglazes and glazes.

How long does it take for my pottery to be ready?

+

Your finished pottery will usually be ready around four weeks after your class. This gives us time to carefully dry, glaze and fire your work in our kiln. We'll send you an email as soon as it's ready to collect from our Freshwater studio.

Can you post my pottery to me?

+

Yes. If you're visiting the Isle of Wight or can't return to collect your pottery, we can post your finished pieces to you for £15 per address.

Can I bring someone with me who isn't taking part?

+

Yes. We have a small seating area, and family members, friends and babies are welcome to come along even if they're not taking part in the class.

Can I bring my dog?

+

Yes! Well-behaved dogs are very welcome in our Freshwater pottery studio.

Is there parking nearby?

+

Yes - there is a public pay-and-display car park just a one-minute walk from Isle of Wight Pottery at Moa Place Car Park, Brookside Road, Freshwater, PO40 9DS

Is the pottery studio wheelchair accessible?

+

Yes. Our Freshwater studio is wheelchair accessible and we also have a wheelchair-height workbench available if needed. Please message us before your visit so we can make sure everything is ready for you.

Can I bring food or drinks?

+

Yes. You're welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy during your pottery session, including alcoholic drinks.
